In 2022 and 2023 the MNB steered short-term rates with an 18% one-day deposit tender while the base rate stood at 13%, so market rates were higher than the base rate in that period. Shown from mid-2001, when the MNB adopted inflation targeting. The instrument behind the base rate has changed: the two-week deposit rate until January 2007, the two-week MNB bill until July 2014, the two-week deposit again until September 2015, and the three-month deposit rate since.
