GDP is Eurostat's quarterly national accounts, seasonally and calendar adjusted. Figures before Malta joined the euro in 2008 are converted from Maltese lira at the fixed rate of 0.429300 lira per euro. Real GDP, and so quarterly growth, starts in 2000, because Eurostat's inflation-adjusted series for Malta begins there.

Inflation is the EU's harmonised index (HICP), the measure the ECB targets; the NSO also publishes a national retail price index, which can differ. Malta joined the euro on 1 January 2008 and has had no policy rate of its own since: the rate shown is the European Central Bank's deposit facility rate, from that date. Before 2008 the Central Bank of Malta set its own rates, with the lira pegged to a basket of currencies and, from May 2005, to the euro; those rates are not shown.

Unemployment is Eurostat's monthly, seasonally adjusted rate (ILO definition, ages 15 to 74). Jobsplus's registered unemployment, sometimes quoted in Maltese news, is a different measure. Employment and participation rates are Eurostat's seasonally adjusted Labour Force Survey figures for ages 15 to 64, from 2009. The survey sample is small, so quarterly moves of a point or so are common.

Goods trade is Eurostat's monthly total with the rest of the world, in euros. Malta usually imports far more goods than it exports; much of its economy is services such as financial services, gaming and tourism, which are not shown here.
Goods trade only. Services aren't covered by this data source and aren't shown here, so relationships that lean heavily on services may be understated.

The 10-year yield is Eurostat's monthly long-term interest rate for convergence purposes, which runs about a month behind. The exchange rates are the Federal Reserve's daily euro rates, shared with every euro area page. Malta is not an OECD member, so there is no OECD business confidence indicator for it.
